With only a bottle of Lunar vodka to comfort him, Marine Captain Zearing Pierce sat gazing out at the stars. The stars of the damned. He couldn't stand it sometimes, but while in orbit of Cait he found a certain serenity about the planet. Perhaps it was the way the sun reflected off the atmosphere. Or perhaps it was because he was too drunk to give a damn.
He thought back to a time when he didn't have to rely on vodka to ease his ills. To a time when he was happy. Or at least, not miserable.

Shuttlecraft Livingston==
"Now! Do it NOW!" yelled Lt. Colonel Zearing Pierce. The shuttle and the Excalibur class USS Nautilus were about to be catapulted to their correct universe after being thrown in another mirror universe where the Terran Empire was strong and ruled more than half the alpha quadrant.
The shuttle was almost in range when Zearing saw the Nautilus send out a massive shockwave. He braced himself, unsure of what was going on. The shuttle was shaking like if he were in a hover car falling down a mountain.
When he opened his eyes, what he saw made him shout a cry of joy as he watched the Nautilus come toward him. They hailed him and almost immediatley Zearing returned hail.
"Zearing, is that you?" a voice asked. Zearing recognized it as his captain, Captain Martin Shoosh.
"This is Pierce captain, it's good to hear your voice!" he replied.
"We've been looking for you for weeks, we'd almost given up hope."
That made Zearing think for a minute. Why did he come through to the correct universe so late? He cast aside any feelings he had and docked his shuttle. He wondered for a moment if he had entered a different universe, then as soon as the lift doors closed, he let out a laugh.

USS Nautilus
January 4th, 2397
"Reinforce power to the inertial dampners!" Lt. Colonel Zearing Pierce hollered. The captain of the Nautilus had been killed by an explosion which caused a beam overhead to crush him. In fact, Zearing was most likely sitting in the remains of his skull. The Nautilus had just been in a major battle along with what was left of the Fourth Fleet and was engaging the Borg over Alpha Centauri when a direct shot at the impulse engines caused the ship to be sucked into the planet's atmosphere.
Zearing was doing everything he could to prevent the ship from crashing. However, when a ship, especially a ship like the Nautilus, there was little to do other than pray. Praying is what kept Zearing sane for the moment. For, while explosions and violent shaking was going on about all around him, all he could think about was Myra. Myra Wilson. Although for the past ten years it had been Myra Pierce.
Myra was the one person in the galaxy with whom Zearing could confide in. Even after the fiasco before the Nautilus was thrown into the mirror universe. He had been caught cheating. She had forgiven him after that, and the following year proposed. Right now, Myra was on the lower decks in the fighter bay holding on to something.
=A= Warning, Environmental Seals on Decks 15 and down have been compromised. Please evacuate immediately.=A=
DAMN! Zearing thought. There was no way they'd have time to evacuate. The ship was about to crash! Before he knew it, the ship was entering the atmosphere. The view screen began to glow red and Zearing could see where they were going to crash. Mountains. Great.
The Nautilus hit one mountain and did a barrel roll until it finally crash landed. People on the very bottom decks of the ship were dead, while those one Decks 15 and below...
MYRA!!
"Status report!" Zearing yelled. He got no answer. The entire bridge crew was dead. His comrades, the people he had saved a dozen times over were dead. Spending no time to grieve Zearing approached the environmental systems console. Either he released Monofolinide into the lower-decks, thereby saving the lives of the people above deck 15 and killing all those below or risk the deaths of everyone on the ship.
Zearing loomed over the console with tears running down his face. He knew what he had to do. After touching a few buttons, the computer acknowledged his command.
=A=Monofolinide released. Decks Purged=A=
Decks purged, he thought.
He just sent over 500 people to their grave. Including Myra.
